Mother Gavrilia
Mother Gavrilia (1897-1992) worked as a nurse in England and India (where she shared the life, but not the worship, of Hindu monastics), became a nun under the influence of Father Lazarus Moore, worked as a missionary nun in Africa, and spent the last years of her long life nursing AIDS sufferers and being a Gerondissa in Athens.
She left a considerable amount of teaching, which you can read in ‘The Ascetic of Love,’ and can be summed up in these few words: “Love” and “I do not exist; the other person does.”
